Designed by Visconti, and built by Rene Honde, the Chateau de
Challain was completed in 1854 as a private residence for Count
Rochefoucauld and his family. The structure is a marvel to
behold; 150ft limestone walls contain 365 windows, 52
fireplaces, and 12 turrets, as well as countless sculptural
details along the facade. The splendor continues inside.
Masterfully carved wood paneling and cabinetry, stunning
hand-painted ceilings, and flawlessly chosen decor make each
salon an historic holidays experience. Situated on beautiful
grounds, the Chateau complex makes up one corner of a small
village, which also has shops, a cathedral, and many summer
events. The Chateau is now open for both overnight guests and
day visitors, and also hosts wedding receptions and other
events, your chateau holidays in France destination.
Accommodations:
At the Chateau de Challain all of our accommodation has been
refurbished to a standard that offers the grand design of the
nineteenth century, with the luxury of today's building
technology, all conveniences are available at the chateau. Each
suite includes robes, slippers, a hairdryer, private w/c, bath
and tea & coffee making facilities. We aim to make your holidays
in France truly memorable.
Dining:
Guests marvel at the cuisine that Chateau de Challain has to
offer. With an on-site chef, a full wine cellar, and fresh
regional produce, every meal is a new opportunity to savor the
best tastes of the Loire Valley.
Overnight guests wake up to a full breakfast each morning,
served from 7-10 am. Luncheons must be reserved the previous
day, dinner with four hours notice. Dinners are currently €60
PP, including wine, coffee, and dessert.
Wedding Facilities:
As you step through the doors of Chateau de Challain the story
of your fairytale wedding begins. For 2 days and two nights
everything within the magnificent castle walls are exclusively
yours.
This is where your personal dreams and wishes are given wings -
fulfilled by the personal yet discreet attentions of those who
strive to make your dreams come true. The bells will chime to
summon the princess to join her prince - some will meet under
the hand painted ceiling of the chateaus intimate chapel, others
will choose the village church and yet more will whisper their
"I do's" under the graceful oak trees in the sumptuous gardens -
but wherever they meet the surroundings will weave a spell upon
all that behold them for the rest of their lives.
With the couples celebrations and merriment at hand from the
kitchen comes forth courses of decadent fine food accompanied by
the cellars lavish regional French wines. The castle floors bear
time old impressions of dancing feet, splendor and gaiety....and
